The two-car-long People Mover would typically make its way around the Renaissance District of Detroit, winding between the skyscrapers and along the river front, completing its circuit in about 20 minutes.

So we often got to watch the People Mover out of our 6th floor window as it made its way winding through Detroit on its elevated platform and we often rode the People Mover even if we didn't need to, because it was lots of fun and very inexpensive.

We lived right across from the Grand Circus Park station of the People Mover. Although we eventually moved out to a suburb because the auto insurance rates and housing taxes were too high to think of buying a home in Detroit and because all the major grocery shopping then would have still required driving out to the suburbs, we still loved being downtown. When we first moved to Detroit in 2007, my work was teaching at a college only 10 minutes from downtown Detroit so we rented an apartment in the Fyfe building downtown to get a feel for the city.
